CIEMAT and IFAE maintain a stable collaboration framework for the scientific-technological center Port d’Informació Científica (PIC), located on the Bellaterra campus of International Excellence of the Universidad Autònoma de Barcelona (UAB).
PIC provides infrastructure and support to a variety of scientific disciplines, which include particle physics, astroparticle, observational cosmology, among others.
Services Offered
PIC operates and maintains since 2003 a first level regional data processing centre of the WLCG distributed computing infrastructure, a Tier1 centre, for the ATLAS, CMS and LHCb experiments at LHC. It also deploys a second level regional data processing centre of the WLCG, a Tier2, for the ATLAS experiment.
The agreement, following the Spanish share to WLCG, is to provide resources equivalent to 5% of the total needs for the Tier1 centers worldwide. PIC operates a fraction (25%) of the Spanish federated ATLAS Tier2, which provides resources equivalent to 5% of the total needs for the Tier2 centers worldwide, as well.
